Sean Murdock’s Mixed Media Art Journey
A little about Sean as a photographer
Sean is an Internationally known mixed-media artist, street artist, and photographer. After leaving Cincinnati as a child he spent 15 years in Fort Myers Florida. Starting art walks in the downtown Patio De Leon was his first push to build an area for himself and other artists. The famous artist Robert Rauschenberg came to his shows, hung out, and gave amazing knowledge leaving an influence on his work.
Moving to Miami in 2002 Sean immediately became known for his sexually charged prints on wooden sheets cut from hurricane debris.
His Rabbit series featuring naked men and women in a bunny head and his massive murals became a part of South Florida culture. Sean painted murals on such famous landmarks as Gallery 212, Tobacco Road (Miami’s oldest bar) and Revolution Live.
As a pioneer of the Wynwood art district in Miami at Gallery 212 and in Fort Lauderdale at The Bubble, he helped forge those areas as art destinations. These early days of neighborhood building were hard but rewarding.
Sean moved to Vallejo California in 2010 and did art shows in the San Francisco area, Oakland, and Los Angeles for a few years. Helping found the Oakland Art Walk, Vallejo Art Walk, and The Hub Vallejo a community art and music space. He helped a friend run ArtIsMobilUs a school bus art gallery that took art to every festival and corner of the area creating live paint walls. Sean has been in hundreds of shows since his first one back in 1990 including The Dirty Show Detroit, the Mr Brainwash Show, and the Sea No Evil – Sea Shepherd charity art show in Los Angeles. During Miami Art Week (Art Basel) Sean has been a featured artist in multiple shows each year since 2009.
